About Essence

I was tired of buying expensive candles that smelt great initially but were always disappointing when I lit them. I set out to make candles that have an amazing scent throw. After much trial and error I am thrilled to be able to share them with you!

Essence candles are hand made in Christchurch, New Zealand with 100% natural soy wax.

THE BENEFITS OF SOY WAX CANDLES

100% Natural!

Soy candles are made from soybeans - a natural, renewable source that grows easily in many regions. This is in contrast to traditional paraffin candles which are made from petroleum. Petroleum is a nonrenewable source that contains carcinogenic substances which are harmful to our bodies. Natural soy wax is a much safer way of indulging in a candle.

Cleaner Burning

Zero toxins, carcinogens or pollutants mean that soy candles are less likely to trigger allergies. Soy wax is much healthier for us and the environment. This planet-friendly substance doesn't emit any nasties into our atmosphere.

Longer Lasting

Soy wax has a lower melting point than paraffin wax. This means that soy wax burns cooler and will last longer than paraffin candles. An extended candle life means that you can enjoy delicious scents for much longer.

Stronger Smelling

Soy wax holds aromas well and due to the low melting point of the wax, the fragrance oils can be released slowly to live up to their full aromatic potential. Soy wax is able to carry three times more fragrance than a paraffin wax candle and therefore has a much stronger scent throw in your room. This is where the marketing term 'triple scented candle' comes from, but that is a whole different article that you can read here.

Biodegradable and water soluble

Since soybeans are a vegetable, soy wax is naturally biodegradable. This makes accidental spills easier to clean up and you can wash out your candle jar to use for a refill.

Our soy candles are mixed with high quality fragrance oils (phthalate free) to give a lovely clean, long burning candle. They are white in colour (no artificial dyes or additives). We use natural wicks with a paper braid design.

We stock a range of reed diffusers and car diffusers for that consistent fragrance in your rooms or cars. These are very long lasting and compliment any room.

Soy wax melts are a popular alternative to candles with out the flame making them a safer option for those with curious pets or young children.

We have consciously decided to avoid expensive and unnecessary packaging. Being mindful of our impact on the planet is important to us and has been a big part of that decision. This is another reason why we are keen to refill your candles for you. If we are posting products we do take care to wrap them carefully for distribution.
